PROGRAM:“Garden Games Just for You”

Welcome to the first meeting of the 2011-12 garden club year! Today’s program will give veteran Cerbat Garden Club members a chance to re-connect, and will provide the opportunity to get acquainted with newer members and guests, as well. There will be puzzles, word games, & and contest questions - all about gardening. Everyone is requested to wear a decorated garden hat, for which prizes will be given. Enjoy the fun!

PROGRAM: Meditation-Healing Garden Update
Program Presenter: Sue Kalanithi and Sandie Womack
Following the business meeting, Chairman Sue Kalanithi and Co-Chair Sandie Wiomack will review hardscape installed in the meditation-healing garden to date. Plant information, budget and funding, and an update on the status of the garden under Kingman Regional Medical Center will be provided. After a brief hiatus during the winter months, volunteers will again be needed for planting and finishing paths, water features, and other aspects of the garden.

PROGRAM: Holiday Preparations
Program Presenters: Aldee Campbell, Virginia Hunter, and Diana Broeckel
Today's program is all about celebrating the holidays in style and giving from the heart.
Aldee will demonstrate how to make a simple floral arrangement for the holidays, Virginia will show alternative ways of wrapping holiday gifts, and Diana will direct a hands-on planting opportunity using narcissus (paperwhite) bulbs to brighten the holidays. Please bring your decorative holiday planter and newspaper for this program.
Finally, there will be a Christmas gift tree from which to select a gift ticket or two to make a purchase for a child who is part of Mohave County’s CASA program.

Following the conclusion of the business portion of the meeting, Cerbat Garden Club members will wrap gift/gifts for a CASA child or children and enjoy all the goodies that members bring to share.
“The Mohave County CASA Program recruits, screens, trains, and supervises community volunteers to serve as Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteers. CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to advocate in court for the safe, permanent future of abused, neglected, and abandoned children.” Last year many children received gifts that they would not have otherwise gotten, due to the generosity of CGC members.

PROGRAM: Pruning Roses
Program Presenter: Vince Beatty, Master Gardener
After retiring from the City of Chicago as a tree topper and pruner, Vince moved to Kingman and discovered that he was living in a totally different gardening environment. Realizing that it takes a great understanding of desert conditions to be a successful gardener in Mohave County, he became a Master Gardner. That was nearly 20 years ago and the result, “knowledge extraordinaire”!
For one, Vince knows pruning! He will show how to prune rose bushes, get healthier plants with more flowers. Here in Mohave County, roses are usually pruned in January/February.

Program Presenter: Zen Mocarski, Arizona Game and Fish
Zen Mocarski, Program Manager for the AZ Game and Fish Department, will give a presentation on bats. He is extremely knowledgeable on this subject and will help members better understand their role in our eco system. Zen will show just how important these little creatures are and will dispel many of the misconceptions regarding bats.
